SBY orders protection of abused immigrant in Penang hospital

President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has ordered Dai Bachtiar, the Indonesian Ambassador to Malaysia, to watch over migrant worker Winfaedah during her treatment at Penang Hospital after she was allegedly abused by her employers.

“The victim needs assistance during her health treatment and legal processing,” international affairs presidential aid Teuku Faizasyah said Sunday, as quoted by Antara.

Yudhoyono had also directly communicated with Winfaedah, Faizasyah said, adding that the President had told him about the abuse that she endured at the hands of her employers.

Winfaedah, 26, an immigrant worker from Lampung, had been physically and sexually abused by her employers. She was found dumped on a roadside last Monday.

The perpetrators were arrested by Malaysian police last Friday.
