Strangulation Hazard Prompts Target Storage Trunks Recall

If you purchased a storage trunk from Target within the last year and a half, check to see if your trunk is part of this recall which Target announced along with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.

Target and CPSC have advised consumers to stop using recalled products immediately and also note that it is illegal to resell or attempt to resell a recalled consumer product.

The CPSC press release says that about 350,000 storage trunks were sold under the name of Woven Storage Trunks. There are 14 different models made of woven rattan, abaca or banana leaf with standard hinges. They measure more than 1.1 feet in length, width and depth and are brown or natural color. The hazard behind this recall is the possible hazard of strangulation to small children when the lid of the trunk drops suddenly. There have been reports of injuries to small children.

These trunks were manufactured in China and the Philippines, and sold exclusively at Target stores nationwide and on the Web at www.target.com from February 2009 through April 2010 for between $50 and $130.

If you think you purchased one of these trunks, CPSC and Target recommend that you immediately stop using them and return them to any Target store for a full refund or replacement product. For additional information, contact Target at (800) 440-0680 between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. CT Monday through Friday, or visit Target's recall page on its website here.
