Bayern go to CAS after Ribery appeal rejected

Bayern Munich will turn to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) after UEFA rejected Franck Ribery's appeal against the red card that will keep him out of the Champions League final.
Ribery was sent off in the semi-final first leg against Lyon after a tackle on Lisandro Lopez and was handed an automatic one-match ban, then a subsequent three-game ban after a UEFA disciplinary panel met late in April.
He challenged the decision, hoping to be available to play against Inter Milan in the final on May 22, but UEFA threw out his appeal during a hearing in Nyon on Wednesday afternoon.
Representations to the panel were made by a delegation that was led by club chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge and included Ribery himself.
Rummenigge indicated to assembled media in Nyon that the club would appeal the ruling to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in a bid to have Ribery eligible for the final at Madrid's Bernabeu stadium.
Ribery also stands to miss the first European game of next season if his appeal to CAS fails. Rummenigge said in a statement released by the club: "Franck Ribery as well as our in-house counsel Dr Gerlinger have in my view put an impressive case to the court that we are not dealing with violent conduct but merely a foul.
"The committee rated this case as a borderline case. Nevertheless the three-person committee unfortunately did not follow FC Bayern's plea. We are very disappointed by this judgment and still cannot comprehend that this foul was judged as violent conduct.
"We told UEFA immediately after the verdict that we will also appeal against this judgment. We will continue to fight for justice so that Franck Ribery, despite the confirmation of the ban, can still play in the Champions League final.''
